Derek is regarded for his experience in the compliance, anti-money laundering and intelligence fields – in both the public and private sectors. Having worked in the gaming industry for over 10 years, Derek’s expertise is unparalleled. Prior to joining MT❯Play, he held senior roles at the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario and the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation. He also served as a Commissioner on the Bermuda Casino Gaming Commission.
Matthew S. Kelleher
Matthew possesses holistic insight into commercial, social and political dynamics of the gaming industry. He offers significant expertise on the gaming regulatory framework, including under federal criminal law, provincial gaming and related legislation, and municipal requirements, as well as deep expertise in pursing and obtaining statutory and regulatory approvals for gaming projects. Matthew was also an integral part of the six-year project that transformed and modernized all aspects of the Ontario government’s casino gaming business.
Fintech, Payments Technology & AML
Ana is co-lead of McCarthy Tétrault’s Fintech group. She has in-depth knowledge of anti-money laundering legislation and regulation, and provides practical and responsive advice on AML matters applicable to the gaming industry. She also has deep knowledge of the financial services sector and financial services regulation, including in respect of payments and new technologies. She is a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) and a Certified Bitcoin Professional (CBP).
eSports & AI
Kosta consults with industry stakeholders from across the eSports world and has unique knowledge of the legal and business issue facing the growing industry. He also has expertise in autonomous vehicles, artificial intelligence, and deep learning. In addition to advising clients on risk management strategies and the disruptive impact of these technologies, he has particular experience and perspective on the evolving Canadian and international regulatory frameworks for autonomous vehicles and other artificial intelligence applications.
Matthew D. Peters
Matthew provides strategic advice to clients on large projects, including the development of strategy, success criteria, deal structure and the financial model. Matthew also acts as lead negotiator on projects. He also spearheads a range of initiatives focused on innovation, technology, client service and service delivery. Carole J. Piovesan
AI, Privacy & Data Governance
Carole co-leads McCarthy Tétrault’s national Cybersecurity, Privacy and Data Management group and regularly consults with clients on compliance with privacy legislation in Canada, data security and the integration of AI technology. In addition, she has advised the Canadian government on policy issues related to AI and was recently invited by the Canadian Minister of Innovation, the Honourable Navdeep Bains, to serve as one of six Innovation Leaders, tasked with facilitating national consultations with enterprise, academics, civil society, and others, to inform Canada’s position on data and digital transformation.
As lead of operations for MT❯Division including MT❯Play, Vanessa leverages her strong consulting background in organizational transformation engagement to drive impact and realize strategic objectives. She has worked with clients in both the private and public sector successfully drive transformational change in the areas of corporate development, strategic marketing, client experience and inclusion. With a deep understanding of the regulatory approach towards gambling in Canada and other jurisdictions, Don provides clients with policy and regulatory advice to ensure efficient and cost-effective compliance. Previously, Don was General Counsel at the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, and the architect of its risk-based and standards-based regulatory approach. He authored The Law of Charitable and Casino Gaming (2nd edition, 2018), is Co-Director, Osgoode PD Certificate in Gaming Law, and Adjunct Professor, Osgoode Hall Law School.

Jim’s expertise is marketing strategy and planning, having created launch strategies for many brands including Coca Cola, Nabisco Foods, Warner Lambert and American Express. Recently retired, Constance was General Counsel to the British Columbia Lottery Corporation. Her range of experience includes corporate governance, regulatory compliance, dispute resolution, risk management, anti-money laundering, privacy, online gambling and sports betting. With extensive board experience, including as Chair of the Inter-Provincial Lottery Corporation, Constance is particularly known for her expertise in the most current Public Procurement legal trends and strategies.
Baldy is a casino executive with a unique and proven track record in land based, online real money and social gaming. A seasoned Project Management and Business Development, he has more than 25 years’ experience spanning the globe working with international companies to harness relationship between sales and production management. He has spent the last 15 years with international exposure in iGaming, online and land based casinos, software development, media and entertainment, animation, visual effects and gaming.
Sports and Lottery
Harley understands sports-betting and lotteries from a practical perspective. He’s a successful sports lottery player with deep knowledge of the ins and outs of game design, operations and the prize collection process. He’s also created courses on gaming law and lectured on sports betting for both Osgoode Hall Law School and the Canadian Gaming Summit. Harley has a law degree from Osgoode Hall and an MBA from Rotman.
Troy has extensive knowledge of the political, regulatory and operational issues related to gaming across Canada and he has advised clients in the complex and often controversial gaming environment for over 20 years. He has represented casinos, gaming equipment manufacturers, lottery, charitable gaming interests, and online stakeholders. Prior to launching his own company, Troy created and managed the first ever gaming practice at a major public affairs firm.
